Wn349 Radar station 'Ammer'

Luftwaffe radar site on cliffs near Auderville

Wn349 La Valette site overview

What to see

West of the small town of Auderville you can find two huge German bunkers complexes.
The largest consisted of a clifftop defensive batterie known as Stp351 La Roche or HKB Stahl which boasted three huge R679 casemates, open emplacements, a fire control post, and anti-aircraft position.
Its neighbour – split by the road our of Auderville - was Wn349 La Vallete, also known as Luftwaffe station ‘Ammer’ which was one of the area’s largest radar stations.
Here you can find the remains of two V229 buildings which supported Wurzburg Riese (Giant Wurzburg) radar dishes, a large HQ/office building for evaluation and processing of the radar data, a garage for the commander’s vehicle, and a generator building – the latter two can be seen next to the road and are a mix of brick and concrete construction materials.
It was also heavily defended by anti-aircraft guns with L409A and L410A emplacements supporting 3.7cm AA guns.
Four R622 double group shelters for personnel were also located at the site, although these are now difficult to see as they are buried within grazing land.
