Wn337 Armanville

Small defensive position on east Cotentin coast

Wn337 site overview

What to see

There are many defensive positions along the west coast of the Cotentin peninsula and Wn337 at Armanville is one of the smaller ones, featuring just one remaining structure.
Now buried by a modern construction, it’s difficult to spot the concrete building next to the beach. Years ago, there was a sign nearby warning beachgoers of the potential risk of unexploded ordnance, but this had been removed sometime in 2025.
Located nearby is a French historic monument, the ruins of what it known as La maison de la sorcière, or the witch’s house. However, locals also tell us this was a holiday home for two well heeled society ladies from Paris, and nothing to do with witches – who do you believe?
Closer inspection also reveals a thick reinforced concrete roof on it similar to those used in German shelters, so the building is somewhat of an enigma!
