Wn314 Vauville La Creque
Beachfront defensive site with gun garages

Wn314 Vauville La Creque site overview

What to see
This small site is situated at the northern end of the long sandy beach which stretches from Vauville to Clairefontaine on the west coast of the Cotentin peninsula.
Wn314 features two machine gun posts, a Pillbox, and an open emplacement on the beachfront with two small personnel shelters and two garages where Pak field guns would be stored before being wheeled out near the beach for firing.
The garages are on private land and can’t be accessed but they can be seen from the road – the D318E1 - which runs through the middle of the site to beach.
The long beach to the south was defended by a series of bunker sites which can still be visited today as can the Biville Dunes – a former French firing range and now nature reserve where you can see the remains of several Sherman tanks and other vehicles which were used as target practice.
