Wn304 Wn304a Pointe du Jardeheu

Small defensive sites near former French gun batterie

Wn304 Wn304a site overview

What to see

These two connected sites at Pointe Jardeheu on the northwest Cotentin coast stand alongside the road leading to what was once a French clifftop gun batterie which later became a semaphore station and now is a series of holiday homes with incredible views over the English Channel.
As with most of the sites along this coastline, both featured ‘Pilz’ pillboxes armed with heavy machine guns with the larger site, Wn304a, also boasting a Tobruk for a captured French tank turret, an open emplacement – possibly for a 7.5cm field gun – a small ammunition building, and a machine gun post. Along with the Pilz, Wn304 also had a small personnel shelter although this is now buried under vegetation near to the road.
