Gr20 Wn06 Granville
Defensive bunker site covering Granville’s port and jetty area

Gr20 Wn06 Granville site overview

What to see
The Gr20 Granville defensive network is made up of around a dozen smaller Widerstandsnests with Wn06 standing near to the north of the breakwater/jetty overlooking the port.
Three buildings remain at the Wn06 site – a large R501 personnel shelter, R612 casemate, and a small R667 casemate.
The shelter was used as refuge during air-raids and stands within a boat-building yard while the R667 casemate is on the edge of the harbour wall and would have contained a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun which covered the entrance to the port.
On the high ground leading up to the Pointe du Roc headland and Wn05 there’s a R612 casemate facing south.
The 7.5cm FK gun in here would have protected the rocky beach and area outside of the jetty to the west. It’s believed there were also anti-aircraft guns located around this area, but these field positions can no longer be identified.
All three buildings are currently sealed and can’t be accessed. A new association of historians and hard-working volunteers took over the running of the Granville area bunkers in the summer of 2026, and they are busy working on new displays ready for guided tours to begin in 2027.
