Gr20 Wn02 Granville
Small batterie which started with two field guns

Gr20 Wn02 Granville site overview

What to see
A single casemate remains at Gr20 Wn02 Granville, and despite it being a large construction it can be very difficult to spot!
The Gr20 Granville defensive network is made up of around a dozen smaller Widerstandsnests with Wn02 on the cliffs near Pointe de Lude north east of the port and town centre.
This was an early war batterie known as ‘Ritter’ after its commanding officer and featured two 10cm FH 14/19 field guns of Czech origin.
Both guns stood in open positions on the cliff top but by early 1944 one of the guns had been moved west to Wn04 and protected inside a R612 casemate. The second gun remained at Wn02 and a north-facing R612 casemate was built to house.
Today the R612 at Wn02 stands precariously on the edge of the cliff below the Rue de la Douane and can’t be accessed for obvious safety reasons. The road was actually built over the top of the rear right quarter of the casemate so only the front and embrasure can be seen if you lean over the protective railings on the edge of the cliff.
The area where there is now a handful of parking places and a small picnic site is believed to be where a 2cm Flak 30 anti-aircraft gun was positioned and there are some buried concrete remains which can be seen here but these can not be positively identified as being part of the original batterie.
