Wn02 Le Taret, near Pouppeville, didn't boast the defensive bunkers systems of other strongpoints and widerstandsnests on Utah Beach, but it did have an important part to play in defending the area.

In order to deter landings by air and sea the fields and ditches behind the beaches and dunes were flooded by holding back river water at a number of key sluice gates, including this one near the marshes of the Baie des Veys.

The sluice area was protected by a series of field positions consisting of machine guns based around the higher ground to the north of the sluice gate, where there is currently a house. A number of eisenpfahel posts here indicate the presence of barbed wire defences around the site too.
