Marg05
Gun casemate and personnel shelters at Saint Aubin

Marg05 site overview

What to see
There are numerous beachfront strongpoints between Saint-Valery-en-Caux in the west and Dieppe to the east, with the designation ‘Marg’ attributed to them due to their proximity to the largest site at Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer.
Marg03 is possibly the most visited of them all due to the remarkable R622 group shelter which stands on its edge on the beach after being washed off the cliffs by fire hoses for safety reasons after it began to overhang the beach area below.
Split by high cliffs, further to the west you can find the remains of Marg05 at Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. Here you can see a series of personnel shelters of R621, R622, and R655 types, and a large R612 gun casemate, mostly all contained within the grounds of a holiday park which stands back from the beach.
This small defensive site protected the beach to the west of a large Luftwaffe anti-aircraft gunnery school high on the cliffs and just inland of the nearby village of Ramouville are a series of Wellblech shelters hidden in woodland while the cliff top itself boasted more than 20 concrete constructions including emplacements for 2cm and 88mm AA guns.
