Two gun casemates on the southern edge of Cayeux town
Ca06 Cayeux sur Mer south site overview
What to see
Cayeux-sur-Mer is a small town located on the southern side of the Baie de Somme and stands between two long beach areas.
Along both flanks of the town, protecting the entrance to the river Somme, are half a dozen defensive strongpoints. There are further sites inland of the coast, including a large radar station.
Strongpoint Ca06 is located on the southern edge of the town and features just two remaining casemates from a site which once boasted several personnel shelters, an open emplacement for a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun plus a Vf67 Tobruk where a turret from a captured French tank would have been positioned.
Close to the centre of the town is a R612 casemate for a 7.5cm field cannon while on the outskirts there’s a smaller R667 casemate for a 5cm KwK.
Both casemates face to the south giving defensive coverage along the long beach. They can be tricky to find as they both stand in private properties.
