Ca01 HKB Saint Valery sur Somme

Large complex on the Somme river mouth

Ca01 HKB Saint Valery sur Somme site overview

What to see

There was a lot of concrete constructions spread out along the headland at Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, but little of it remains to be seen today. And was does remain is either partially buried or incorporated into more modern constructions.
Ca01 boasted a mix of defensive and personnel builds with the eastern flank protected by a trio of Tobruks – one designed for mounting a captured tank turret and two for heavy machine guns.
On the right flank, alongside the river, were two more positions with MG Tobruks and an open emplacement for a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun. At the point of the site – known as Cap Hornu – were two further open emplacements, a R501 single group shelter, and two R134 ammunition bunkers.
Further inland of these was a small Vf6a observation post and two Vf2a personnel shelters. Just visible in the marshland next to the river is the remains of the Vf6a post, although visiting it can be tricky due to the marshy conditions.
