Stp Pointe de Saint Quentin
Extensive gun batterie overlooking mouth of River Somme estuary

Stp Pointe de Saint Quentin site overview

What to see
Located on the northern point of the Somme river mouth, this was once an extensive batterie on the west coast of northern France.
It once featured four heavy-calibre field guns positioned in open emplacements and two of the platforms with their surrounding ammunition niches survive today, the other two have been covered by dune sand and scrub, making them difficult to see.
Supporting the gun positions were more than a dozen personnels buildings and defensive posts, including R621 and R622 group shelters, an observation post, Tobruks, and emplacements for 5cm KwK anti-tank guns which were used as a rear guard to the site from inland attacks.
But the most striking of all the structures is the R636 command post for this army batterie, which can be seen from a wide area thanks to its lofty position on top of the dunes.
Today this site gets few visitors – most of the site stands in a nature reserve and private land where shooting takes place so accessing it isn’t an option without permission.
