One of two beach-front strongpoints between the towns of Merlimont-Plage to the north and Berck-Plage to the south, there are only a few remaining constructions at Stp Garde du Corps (Bodyguard).
Located 2km south of Merlimont and 1km north of Stp Berck Nord site, you can see a wrecked personnel shelter on the beach with an almost completely buried Tobruk to its rear.
Behind the high dunes are piles of strewn rubble and concrete pieces which look to be part of either another shelter or an observation post, but it’s difficult to be certain.
Less than 1km to the south of Garde du Corps is the massive Stp Berck Nord batterie which boasted some of the heaviest weapons of the area – 17cm calibre cannons - housed in open emplacements and supported by more than a dozen big bunkers, gun casemates and personnel buildings – it’s well worth the visit.
