Many of the larger chateau buildings in key locations of occupied France were commandeered by German officers and this site at Tocqueville between Cherbourg and Barfleur was once such site.
Rather than offering defences, the buildings here supported the officers with three garages – for staff cars – a small shelter, and a large Nachrichtenstand which was a HQ, offices, communications building.
All of the buildings are on private land and cannot be accessed without prior permission.
