Wn131a Intheville

Inland 88mm gun casemate now used as stables

Wn131a Intheville site overview

What to see

A single R677 casemate is the only building at Wn131a at Intheville.
This standard design casemate was constructed for an 88m Pak 43/41 gun and here it was aligned to the north east, giving protection to the coast behind three smaller resistance nests.
Today it stands off limits to the public, but we were granted permission to film. The embrasure for the gun has been sealed but the rear entrance is still in place as it is used by the Poney Club as stable for horses.
Unlike many of the larger casemates in this area, this one hasn’t been subjected to damage caused by destroying leftover ammunition and remains in a good condition.
Its neighbouring site – Wn131 – is a beachfront site which occupies the low headland 700m to the north.
Wn131 featured several defensive Tobruks, including one for a mortar and one for mounting a captured French tank turret, an open emplacement for an anti-tank gun, and two personnel shelters, all of which can still be seen today.
