Ring of defences around the large Gatteville batterie site

Wn125 Wn125a Wn125b sites overview

What to see

These three sites under the designations Wn125, Wn125a, and Wn125b surround the Gatteville-le-Phare area on the north east tip of the Cotentin peninsula.
Wn125a features the largest of the buildings of the three locations with a single R612 casemate for a 7.5cm field gun which covered the coastline south east of the massive Gatteville batterie. This building is now on agricultural land and almost completely overgrown with gorse and brambles.
Wn125 protected the north west of the batterie – Stp152 Gatteville – at Le Coin du Role and was made up of two Tobruks, an open emplacement for a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun, a small shelter, and a field-built observation and targeting post. Few of the builds are left visible today but you can see one of the Tobruks overlooking the beach to the west.
Further west along the beach around 1.5km away you can find Wn125b where there are remains of two small shelters and a Tobruk in the fields behind the beach plus a double embrasure bunker for a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun and a short section of wall from a machine gun post.
