Wn117 Pointe de Fouly

Small defensive site on east Cotentin coast

Wn117 site overview

What to see

Situated to the south of Barfleur along the north east Cotentin coast are dozens of small rocky headlands and sandy beaches.
Many of the promontories were fortified by the occupying German forces to provide beachfront defences in front of the larger batteries and strongpoints inland or spread further along the coast.
Wn117 Pointe de Fouly is one of the smaller defensive sites on this coastline and features four Tobruk style bunkers with an additional open emplacement constructed for a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun which would have been used against any landing craft making its way to the nearby beach area to the south of the position.
There are three machine gun Tobruks – two are in the field behind the shoreline – and a Vf69 type Tobruk which was built for a mortar, giving this small site a lot of firepower.
