Stp111 Saint-Vaast-la-Hogue
Small strongpoint on the edge of port town
Stp111 site overview
What to see
Most visitors to the popular port town of Saint-Vaast-la-Hogue will miss this strongpoint as it’s a little distance away from the main street – but it does boast a special construction R622 double group shelter and a R667 casemate.
The R667 is directed to fire into the narrow straight between the point and the island of Tatihou and can easily be overlooked as it stands behind the church and is now incorporated into part of the sea wall and has an observation deck on top.
Only the top part of the roof of the R622 is visible and has a memorial cross on top although if you look carefully around the edges, you can see construction dates and inscriptions in the remaining concrete.
