"Honor, Courage, Commitment."

The US Navy Normandy monument at the Utah Beach museum near Saint Marie du Mont represents the role of the US Navy in the D-Day landings and the liberation of Europe.
The three Navymen represent the three roles of the US Navy on D-Day.
An officer is standing and he represents leadership and the planning and intelligence for the operation.
The sailor on his knees, represents the naval combat demolition units and those sailors who fought ashore and took high casualties. The third sailor is loading a gun for the shore bombardment.

This magnificent statue was created by Stephen Spears of Fairhope, Alabama. Through the expressions on the faces of the three men, Mr. Spears was able to show the determination and courage of those who participated in the liberation.
The base of the monument is a pentagon representing the five invasion beaches and inscribed on it are the US Navy ships and units which participated in the D-Day landings.
