Wn126 Bonn
Small observation position on the high ground near major batteries

Wn126 Bonn site overview

What to see
Located inland of Sangatte to the south west of Calais, Wn126 Bonn occupied the high ground behind several large gun batteries and stood between Batterie Lindemann and the site of the Prinz Heinrich batterie.
With its lofty position it’s not surprising that the main buildings here are two R637 observation and measuring posts for German army batteries. Standing just a few metres apart, both buildings are in good condition – perhaps due to the remoteness of their location – although accessing them is with permission only as the area has been fenced off for the rearing of wildfowl.
One of the R637 buildings is now so overgrown it’s inaccessible, but the eastern building can still be accessed with care.
Between the two R637s stands an open emplacement but rather than for a gun it held a 150cm searchlight which would have highlighted Allied aircraft for anti-aircraft guns situated to the rear of Lindemann.
Lower down the slope there is an almost completely overgrown and flooded Tobruk and you can still just about see the ring which mounted a tank turret on top. A concrete water reservoir and several machine gun positions were also located here but are difficult to spot in the vegetation now.
