Stp181 Rattenfanger
Small site which provided defensive perimeter around big batteries
Stp181 Rattenfanger site overview
What to see
One of a series of small bunker sites surrounding the larger batteries of Todt, and Grosser Kurfurst, Stp181 Rattenfanger is hidden away among houses in the beautiful village of Audinghen on the Cap Gris Nez cliff area.
The largest is a special construction casemate for a heavy machine gun which is located on Rue de Todincthun but would have covered the main D940 road to and from the Batterie Todt area. This building features two protected embrasures and would have allowed firing in both directions, obviously prior to the modern buildings which now block its field of fire.
Opposite the church in the village is another special construction bunker, this time a heavy-duty storage/personnel shelter. Like the MG bunker, this stands in a private garden and can’t be accessed without permission.
In the field on the western outskirts of the village there’s a small Vf shelter which can be seen during the winter months or when the crops have been harvested.
