The large beachfront shelter which formed Stp Sommernacht is little more than a pile of rubble on the beach now and at high tide is subjected to the full force of the waves.
Given the location with views east to Cap Gris Nez and west along the beach towards Wissant it’s surprising a more formidable strongpoint was never created, perhaps the multiple smaller Widerstandsnests located inland were deemed to be enough.
