Stp110 Telegraphenhohe

High ground observation site covered in bomb craters

Stp110 Telegraphenhohe site overview

What to see

Located on top of one of the highest points of land in the Cap Blanc Nez area at 151m above sea level, Stp110 Telegraphenhohe has a commanding view over the surround landscape. On a clear day you can see all the way over to the white chalk cliffs of southern England.
It’s now the site of a communications mast and supporting buildings but you can still get up close to the remains of several WW2 German constructions at the location on top of Mount d’Hubert.
On the walk up the steep hill you can one of two R630 machine gun casemates which provided defence of the site, while at the top there are three buildings to be found, although none are accessible. The easiest to spot is the observation and measuring post which looks out towards the coast and sea.
There’s also a R502 shelter which forms the foundations of a larger communications building supporting the modern mast and the roof and Tobruk of a R622 shelter in the field next to the mast site.
From the top you can also see the thousands number of bomb craters which still scar the hilltops in the area – the result of bombing raids on the large batteries once located nearby, including the infamous Lindemann site which fired on England.
While Lindemann’s casemates are now buried in a lake and underneath the spoil from digging the Channel Tunnel, the deep depressions from the bombs can still be seen running in a line along the headlands from Escalles towards the former batterie location and the village of Sangatte.
