Wn104 Stuttgart

Small beachfront bunker site east of Calais at Sangatte

Wn104 Stuttgart site overview

What to see

Wn104 Stuttgart is one of four sites on the beachfront at Sangatte and neighbours Wn103 Munchen, Wn105 Koln, and Stp106 Dresden – all named after large German cities.
The remaining concrete here is mixed in with modern beach defences, an extensive promenade, and housing now occupying the long beach area, but is still easy to find.
Just two Pillboxes remain at Wn104 and these stand around 200m apart on the promenade. Between them, but now buried by the modern breakwater/beach defences, was an open emplacement for a 2cm anti-aircraft gun.
The machine gun pillboxes are an early type of build which are found regularly in the Dunkirk and Calais areas, but few remain outside of these areas on the Atlantikwall.
