On the south west outskirts of the port city of Dunkirk, at Cappelle-la-Grande you can find a huge bunker known as a ‘Nachtrichtenstand’ or ‘News stand’ which was a communications hub for the German forces in the area.
Measuring 12m long by 6m wide, this heavy-duty concrete construction would have featured multiple rooms laded with radio and communications equipment.
Today the building stands surrounded by modern housing inside a children’s park and is partially buried with landscaping around and on top of its structure so no longer accessible inside.
