Wn Elritze
Wellblech shelter site now buried under dumped rubbish

Wn Elritze site overview

What to see
Now almost lost within an expanding industrial area south of the port city of Dunkirk at Petit-Synthe, WW2 German bunker site Wn Elritze is a difficult place to visit and explore.
It stands alongside the Canal de Bourbourg in woodland which as been heavily abused over the years and is one of the most rubbish-strewn areas we’ve ever visited with everything from fly-tipped car parts to a bath, old mattresses, and miles of old electrical cables.
This makes finding the original 15 or so Wellblech shelters and an emplacement for a 2cm anti-aircraft gun very tricky and our recent visit during winter when the vegetation had died back saw us only find two of the shelters.
Again, due to piles of rubbish they were not safely accessible.
