Stp Rochen
Mix of early-war type field buildings east of Calais
Stp Rochen site overview
What to see
An easy bunker site to spot from the road but also one which is difficult to stop at due to the nature of the D119 road, with few areas to park a car safely.
Located on the western side of the village of Waldam a couple of hundred metres inland of the beach and marsh front defences, Stp Rochen features an unusual mix of buildings.
Here you can see a ‘flakstand’ anti-aircraft gun position, four large shelters, and two ammunition storage bunkers, all designed in the field rather than as standard Atlantikwall build types.
The buildings are a mixture of local brick and concrete and look to be early-war types.
This area – although possibly not the bunkers left here - was used as a bomb storage site for the nearby Calais-Marck airfield which was used by the Luftwaffe until March 1941.
