Stp Aal
Small ammo storage site with fake gun batterie

Stp Aal site overview

What to see
Stp Aal is one of the most easterly bunker sites built by German forces following the occupation of France in May 1940 and nestles the border with Belgium in the Dune Fossile de Ghyvelde area east of Dunkirk.
It stands within a protected nature reserve so accessing the remaining buildings is difficult, even more so given that a few of them – including two shelters and an ammunition storage bunker stand just proud of the surface of a small lake known as Lac Mayeux.
The site was an ammunition storage position but there were also four open emplacements built here, although these are not what they seem.
Located in the scrubland north of the Rue de la Frontiere, a fake gun batterie was created to confuse Allied aircraft and the remains of which can still be seen today as four circular-shaped earth mounds in the nature reserve.
