Wn247 Goldlack
Heavy machine gun casemates protecting higher ground

Wn247 Goldlack site overview

What to see
This site if not only difficult to find but nearly impossible to access today as it’s completely overgrown.
Wn247 Goldlack stands on the high ground overlooking the deep valley near to the Herquelingue viaduct to the east of the Boulogne-sur-Mer suburbs of Saint-Leonard and Saint Etienne-au-Mont.
Covering the main road inland of Boulogne – now the A16 motorway – are three R630 casemates which are heavy duty machine gun emplacements and would have each featured a 4.7cm Skoda fortress gun.
Behind this site, on the higher ground, was a large artillery batterie which Goldlack would have protected from advancing forces.
Two of the R630s are on land which forms part of the toll booth area so can’t be accessed while the third has become so overgrown in recent years it’s now impossible to see any of the remaining concrete.
