Located around 5km inland of the coastal towns of Ambleteuse and Wimereux, north of Boulogne, Stp205 Colibri in the village of Connincthun is one of the forgotten gun batteries of the area.
It once boasted serious firepower with four R669 casemates constructed to protect field guns, in this case 7.5cm calibre weapons capable of reaching the beaches to the west of the position.
All four of the heavy-duty casemates feature two internal ammunition storage rooms as is the standard for this frequently built style of casemate, but they also have attached annexes for crew.
Today the site stands on agricultural land and away from major roads and has been left to overgrow, making access difficult to the casemates and the annexes.
Three of the casemates remain in a derelict condition but casemate four, the most heavily overgrown of them all, has been used to destroy left over ammunition at some point following its capture and exhibits some serious damage to the storage areas and gun room.
In the surrounding field you can find a large number of Eisenpfahel spiked steel posts used by the German occupiers for barbed wire fencing.
