Just one building remains at Vill023 on the western outskirts of the town of Villers-sur-Mer, and it’s an obscure, rare bunker type.
Next to the sailing club entrance is a R141c bunker – a personnel shelter and water supply bunker.
Very few were built on the Atlantikwall, although there are several examples to be found in this part of Normandy with two more further east on the eastern side of Villers-sur-Mer at Vill020.
The R141c is a substantial-sized building though measuring around 12m by 15m with a height of over 5m, enough for a large group of soldiers.
There’s now a café – with a great view of the beach – located on top of the bunker.
