There are only four buildings left at Vill020 Villers-sur-Mer, but what does remain is worth a visit for the rarity value of the constructions.
Behind the main road running alongside the beach are four heavy-duty concrete builds – two R141c types, a R194 bunker, and R604 gun casemate.
Very few R141c bunkers - a personnel shelter with water supply - were built on the Atlantikwall, although there are six more examples to be found in this part of Normandy, located at Villers-sur-Mer sites Vill022, Vill16, Vill015, and Vill010.
The R141c is a substantial size building though measuring around 12m by 15m with a height of over 5m, enough for a large group of soldiers.
Only nine R604 gun casemates were built in this region. A simple, three roomed building with a crew room, ammunition storage space, and a garage for a field gun.
Both the R604 and the R194 – a water storage bunker - are now the foundations for a beach view houses with enviable outlooks over the beach and sea.
