Vill016 Benerville-sur-Mer
Large observation post on the beach at Benerville-sur-Mer

Vill016 site overview

What to see
It can be tricky to spot the remaining WW2 concrete in the town of Benerville-sur-Mer, with much of the Vill016 site now covered by housing or standing in private gardens.
However, there are some obvious signs of the occupation of the area at this beachfront complex which stands in front of the massive Mont Canisy batterie site – one of the largest sites built in Normandy.
Head to the beach at the end of Rue Hoinville and you won’t be able to miss the huge observation bunker jutting out from the promenade. In the seawall below you can also see loopholes for machine guns covering the beach exit.
On Rue Louise there you can see a R501 personnel shelter now mostly covered in a garden while a few yards away in front of the house is an open emplacement where a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun would have been located and able to fire along the beach.
