Vill01 stands at the entrance to the river and port in the beautiful town of Deauville and was once an extensive defensive complex.
Protecting the site from attack from the sea, it featured Tobruks, open emplacements for anti-tank guns, and a R604 casemate/garage for a 7.5cm field gun.
Like many of the sites in the picturesque tourist town, they have been removed or buried to make way for houses, flats, and modern amenities.
The only two constructions left are surprisingly easy to spot. Near to the pier is a Vf66 personnel and ammunition bunker, although it is only the roof and a few courses of bricks from the emergency escape shaft which can still be seen.
The largest building at Vill01 is the massive air-raid shelter which forms the main building at the Deauville Yacht Club. This can be seen next to the Quai de la Marine rod skirting the harbour basin.
