Trou08 Cricqueboeuf

Cluster of buildings resting on the Seine beach

Trou08 site overview

What to see

There are a fascinating mix of concrete constructions at Cricqueboeuf between Honfleur and Deauville, where the headland has been eroded leaving many bunkers on the beach.
In a small cluster around the point of the headland you can see a Vf66 personnel and ammunition shelter, an open emplacement for a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun, a small ammunition storage shelter, an observation position, and a special construction bunker for a 4.7cm Skoda Fortress gun.
Around 150m to the west is a R141c which is a personnel shelter and water supply bunker. These are relatively rare on thew whole of the Atlantikwall, although there is a concentration of them to be found in this part of Normandy, especially around Villers-sur-Mer and Deauville areas.
The R141c is a substantial-sized building measuring around 12m by 15m with a height of over 5m, enough for a large group of soldiers.
Trou08’s buildings here are accessible with care but keep an eye on the tides as the water does reach the bunkers. There’s a great view across the River Seine mouth to Le Havre from here too.
