Trou06 Pennedepie

Anti-tank gun garage and personnel bunkers near coastal batterie

Trou06 Pennedepie site overview

What to see

Controlling access along the coastal road from Trouville to Honfleur, this small site stands near to Batterie Vasouy, one of the largest gun batteries in this area of Normandy.
The Kriegsmarine operated batterie featured a M262 observation bunker and three M272 casemates (a fourth was still in the planning stage) for 15cm guns which would cover the coast near to mouth of the River Seine estuary.
By comparison, its neighbouring site Trou06 was much smaller and today features just three buildings – two R622 double group personnel shelters and a R604 bunker.
One of the R22 bunkers is the foundation for a house while the second can be seen but stands in overgrown agricultural land and cannot be accessed.
The R604 was a garage for a 7.5cm wheel field gun with a small crew room and ammunition storage room incorporated into the structure either side of the garage entrance. Today it stands on private land and can’t be visited without permission.
Inside the cemetery of the Saint Georges de Pennedepie church nearby you can find a single war grave – that of Belgian soldier Raymond Van Den Abbeels.
Part of the Brigade Piron, he was killed on August 24, 1944, during the liberation of the area.
