Trou012 Villerville
Former coastal batterie now hidden within holiday campsite

Trou012 Villerville site overview

What to see
The German Army batterie site designated Trou012 is one of several strongpoints defending the coastline north east of the port town of Trouville-sur-Mer.
Originally a location for six 15.5cm K420 guns – French-made First World War era weapons captured during the fall of France – the site was due to undergo a construction program which would see four R679 casemates along with supporting bunkers built.
However, only one of the casemates was ever constructed. Its cluster of concrete buildings today stand inside a camping site and nearby orchard, split by the Route du Val road.
Interspersed between the rows of mobile homes you can find the single R679 casemate, a R600 open emplacement for an anti-tank gun, and a R501 group shelter – the latter two being almost completely buried and feature landscaping around to cover them.
The two R607 ammunition bunkers are in the private orchard across the road, and both can still be seen but not visited.
Trou012 was one of the D-Day targets of HMS Warspite and received a barrage of shells on the morning of June 6, 1944, following the bombing raids which took place in the days prior to the landings.
