Cab01 Cabourg

Double anti-tank gun garages at beachfront site

Cab01 site overview

What to see

The spit of land behind the sandy beach and low dunes near the small port at Cabourg is a popular spot for beachgoers and tourists, but few will spot the remains of bunker site Cab01 located here.
Just two small shelters can be found here – one at each end of the spit itself - but shifting sands can expose and cover them during the year so they can be difficult to spot.
Further west into the town there are more buildings – two R604 gun casemates and a Vf1a type six-man personnel shelter. These can also be difficult to get up close to as they are located in private gardens and form part of modern buildings.
The R604 builds were designed as garages for anti-tank guns and also featured a large crew room and a separate ammunition storage room. The two here at Cab01 can be seen next to the Promenade Marcel Proust in the grounds of the last few houses before Avenue Pasteur.
